Pre-Owned Luxury Shops in Tokyo: A Guide by Area

The short answer: Tokyo's pre-owned luxury shops are grouped in four areas. Ginza has Hermès and watch specialists and large multi-brand resellers. Shinjuku has branches of several of the same chains. Nakano Broadway has watch shops, including vintage specialists. Omotesando and Harajuku are where you find vintage boutiques focused on Chanel and other houses. Shops that are often named include BRAND OFF, GINZA XIAOMA, KOMEHYO, Daikokuya, AMORE Vintage Tokyo, GINZA RASIN, JACKROAD, VINTAGE QOO TOKYO and Ginzo. Choose by what you want to buy, then check each shop's authentication, condition grades, tax-free service and languages before you go.

This page is written by LUXARIA, a pre-owned Hermès and Rolex shop in Ginza. We list other shops here because that is what visitors ask us: "Where else should I look?" The facts about each shop come only from that shop's own website, checked in November 2026. We do not rank shops, and we do not quote their prices.

How do you choose a pre-owned luxury shop in Tokyo?

Most visitors compare shops on six points. They matter more than the size of the store.

1. Authentication

Ask how the shop checks that an item is genuine, and who does it. Good questions are:

  • Is every item checked before it goes on sale, or only some?
  • How many people check it?
  • What does the shop do if a problem is found after you buy?

In Japan, a business that buys and sells second-hand goods needs a licence from the prefectural Public Safety Commission. Many shops show their licence number in the footer of their website. It is a simple first check that you are dealing with a registered business.

2. Condition grades (S, A, AB and others)

Japanese resellers usually describe condition with letters or short phrases. The exact meaning differs from shop to shop, but the pattern is often like this:

Grade (typical)What it usually means
N / NS / NewNew or unused, sometimes with store stickers
SExcellent; little or no visible sign of use
ALight signs of use, such as faint marks on corners or hardware
ABBetween A and B; some visible wear but in good order
BClear signs of use, still usable
CHeavy wear; often priced for repair or parts

Always read the shop's own definition, and look at the photos of corners, handles, hardware and the inside. At LUXARIA we use six written grades, from "New" to "Sign of use". You can see what each one means in how we authenticate.

3. Tax-free shopping

From 1 November 2026, Japan's tax-free system works as a refund. You pay the price including consumption tax in the shop and show your passport. When you leave Japan within 90 days of the purchase, you have the item checked at customs before you check in your luggage, and the tax is then refunded. Not every shop offers tax-free sales, and some items may be excluded, so ask before you pay. Read the full steps in our guide: Japan tax-free shopping 2026.

4. Payment

Credit cards are widely accepted. Several shops in this guide say on their websites that they accept Alipay, WeChat Pay or UnionPay in store. If you plan to use one of these, check the shop's payment page first.

5. Shipping home

If you do not want to carry a bag or watch through the airport, ask whether the shop ships abroad. Rules vary: some shops ship worldwide from their own online store, some only through a forwarding service, and some do not ship items made from protected species (CITES). Import duties in your country are normally paid by you, the buyer.

6. English or Chinese-speaking staff

Some shops say they have staff or interpreters who speak English, Chinese, Korean or Thai. Others offer a website in several languages. A translated website is not the same as staff who speak your language, so if this matters, message the shop before you visit.

Which areas should you visit?

Ginza

Ginza is Tokyo's main luxury shopping street, and many pre-owned specialists sit within a few blocks of Chuo-dori. Here you find Hermès specialists, watch specialists and the flagship stores of large resellers. It is the easiest area to visit several shops in one afternoon on foot.

Shinjuku

Shinjuku has branches of several chains also found in Ginza, mostly around Shinjuku 3-chome and the east side of the station. It is convenient if you are staying in west Tokyo.

Nakano Broadway (for watches)

Nakano Broadway is a shopping and residential complex opened in 1966, a short walk from the north exit of Nakano Station. It is widely known for subculture shops, and it also has watch dealers. Many visitors search for "Nakano Broadway watches", so plan time to look around more than one floor.

Omotesando and Harajuku (for vintage)

The streets of Jingumae, between Omotesando and Harajuku, are home to vintage boutiques. Expect older pieces, vintage Chanel and a fashion-led mix of bags, accessories and clothing, rather than recent bags.

Where does LUXARIA fit?

LUXARIA is a pre-owned shop in Ginza that focuses on Hermès bags (Birkin, Kelly, Constance and Picotin) and also carries Rolex, Chanel and Van Cleef & Arpels. It is a good match if you already know you are looking for a Hermès bag or a Rolex and want to see a focused selection. If you want a wide mix of brands, vintage fashion or a large choice of watches across many makers, the other shops in the table may suit you better.

What you can expect at LUXARIA:

  • Every item is checked before sale. Each item is inspected by more than one person and must pass a check of more than 50 points. See how we authenticate.
  • No purchase history needed. LUXARIA is an independent pre-owned shop with no connection to Hermès. Every bag in stock can be bought on its own.
  • English and Chinese-speaking staff, and payment by credit card, Alipay, WeChat Pay or UnionPay in the store.
  • Tax-free for eligible items, with your passport, at the store's tax-free counter.
  • Stock you can check before you come. The same stock is listed on this website: Hermès in stock · Rolex in stock. To get a feel for current prices, see our monthly price index of pre-owned Hermès and Rolex in Japan, which is based on the prices shown in our own stock.

The store is on the ground floor of New Ginza Building No. 8, 7-5-12 Ginza, a 5-minute walk from Ginza Station, and is open 11:30–20:00. Directions and details: visit LUXARIA Ginza.

A one-day route for pre-owned luxury in Tokyo

This route moves from west to east, so you finish in Ginza, where many shops stay open into the evening. Check each shop's hours on its website before you go.

  1. Morning – Nakano Broadway (watches). Take the JR Chuo Line to Nakano Station, leave by the north exit and walk through the Sun Mall arcade to Nakano Broadway. Watch shops are on more than one floor.
  2. Late morning – Shinjuku. Take the JR Chuo Line back towards central Tokyo and get off at Shinjuku. Several chains have branches around Shinjuku 3-chome, which makes it easy to compare watches and bags.
  3. Lunch and afternoon – Omotesando and Harajuku (vintage). Take the subway or JR to Omotesando or Harajuku and walk the side streets of Jingumae for vintage boutiques.
  4. Late afternoon and evening – Ginza. The Tokyo Metro Ginza Line runs directly from Omotesando to Ginza. Walk along Chuo-dori and the side streets between Ginza 1-chome and 8-chome, where Hermès, watch and multi-brand specialists are close together.

Tips for the day:

  • Bring your passport if you want to shop tax-free.
  • Note item numbers on shop websites before you go, and message the shop to check the item is still there. Pre-owned stock sells quickly.
  • Decide how you will get items home. If you buy something large or valuable, ask about shipping or plan your customs check at the airport.

FAQ

Is it safe to buy pre-owned luxury in Tokyo?

Buying from an established shop is generally a reasonable choice, but you should still check each shop yourself. Look for a shop that authenticates every item before sale, explains its condition grades in writing, and shows its second-hand dealer licence number. Ask what happens if a problem is found after purchase, because return rules differ from shop to shop.

Which area is best for used watches?

It depends on what you are looking for. Ginza has watch specialists that carry new and pre-owned pieces from many makers, and Nakano Broadway has watch dealers, including some that focus on vintage. Shinjuku has branches of several of the same shops. If you are looking for a specific Rolex model, check the online stock of a few shops first.

How can I tell if a Tokyo shop is legitimate?

Check that the shop has a physical address, a second-hand dealer licence number from a Public Safety Commission, and a clear explanation of how it authenticates items. Search for the shop's official website rather than relying on a social media account alone, and be careful with sites that copy a shop's name; some shops publish warnings about fake websites.

Can I buy pre-owned items tax-free in Japan?

Yes, at shops that offer tax-free sales, and for eligible items. From 1 November 2026, you pay the price including tax and show your passport, then the tax is refunded after customs checks the item when you leave Japan within 90 days. Some shops exclude certain items, so ask before you pay.

Do shops in Tokyo speak English or Chinese?

Many do. Several shops in this guide say they have staff or interpreters who speak English and Chinese, and some also mention Korean or Thai. At LUXARIA, staff speak English and Chinese, in the store and on WhatsApp or WeChat.

Can I have my purchase shipped home instead of carrying it?

Often, yes. Many shops ship abroad from their own online store, while others ship only through a forwarding service. Import duties and taxes in your country are usually paid by you. Items made from protected species may not be shipped abroad.
