Hermès Constance 18 vs 24: Sizes, Leathers, Prices in Japan

Hermès Constance Mini 18 Noir

Hermès Constance Guide: Mini 18, 24 or To Go? Sizes, Leathers and Prices in Japan (2026)

The short answer: The Constance is Hermès's flap bag with the large "H" clasp. The Mini 18 is the small size that most people search for; the 24 is the larger everyday size; the Constance To Go is a wallet-shaped version. Choose the size first, then the leather (Epsom holds its shape, Box calf is smooth and glossy, Chèvre is a fine-grained goatskin), then gold or palladium hardware. As of November 2026, our pre-owned Constance Mini 18 bags in Ginza are listed at about ¥1.72–2.20 million (tax-excluded display prices, a guide only).

What makes a Constance a Constance?

The Constance is easy to recognise: a flat, structured body, a front flap and a large metal "H" that closes the flap. The strap is part of the bag, so you can wear it on the shoulder or across the body depending on how you adjust it.

Because the bag is small and structured, the details matter more than on a large tote: the shape of the flap, the corners, the H clasp and the edges are what you look at first on a pre-owned piece.

Mini 18 or 24?

  • Choose the Mini 18 if you want a small evening or travel bag that holds the essentials. It is the most searched Constance size: "constance 18 hermes" is searched about 2,171 times a month worldwide, far more than any other Constance term in our data.
  • Choose the 24 if you want one bag for every day and need more room. In our stock on 5 November 2026 there was only one 24, so you may need to wait for the colour you want.
  • Not sure? Message us with the item number and we will tell you what fits inside.

Is the Constance easy to find in Japan?

It is less common than the Picotin or Birkin. On 5 November 2026 we had 13 Constance-family items on our overseas site, compared with 45 Picotins and 44 Birkins. In our current stock, black (Noir) Epsom with gold hardware is the most common combination (3 of the 10 Mini 18s); other colours and exotic skins are fewer. If you have a specific colour in mind, check the stock list before your trip and ask us to look out for it.

Which leather for a Constance?

The Constance is made in several leathers. These three are the ones in our current stock.

LeatherSurfaceShape over timeThings to look at on a pre-owned bagOur Mini 18 stock
EpsomEmbossed (pressed) grain, slightly matteGenerally holds a crisp, flat shapeCorners and edges, where the colour can wear first5
Box calfSmooth and glossyFirm; develops a patina with useFine scratches and water marks are easier to see2
Chèvre (goatskin, incl. Chamkila)Fine, small grain, often with a soft sheenLight and fairly firmCorners and the edge of the flap3
  • Epsom is often chosen for the Constance because a structured bag looks right when it stays flat and sharp.
  • Box calf is the classic smooth leather. Many people like how it changes with use, but if you want a bag that looks new for longer, look closely at the surface under light.
  • Chèvre is a goatskin with a fine grain. It is often described as light and resistant to everyday wear.

These are general characteristics. Each bag is different, so always look at the photos of the actual item and the condition rank. For more on leathers, see our leather guide See stock.

What about exotic skins?

Some Constances are made in alligator, crocodile, lizard or ostrich, or mix them with calfskin (our current Constance 24 combines Swift, alligator and lizard). Exotic skins can need permits to leave Japan and to enter your country under wildlife trade rules. The rules depend on the country and can change, so check them before you buy.

Gold or palladium hardware?

The H clasp is the focal point of a Constance, so the hardware colour changes the look more than on most bags.

  • Gold looks warmer and more formal. In our Mini 18 stock, 6 of 10 bags have gold hardware.
  • Palladium (silver tone) looks cooler and more casual. Japanese listings usually call it "silver hardware". 3 of our 10 Mini 18s have it.
  • Champagne gold is a paler gold. 1 of our Mini 18s has it.

On a pre-owned bag, look at the face of the H clasp and the strap buckles. Plated hardware can show fine scratches with use; some owners like this, some prefer it close to new. Ask for close-up photos.

How to read a Constance listing in Japan

A typical Japanese title reads like this: *Hermès Constance Mini 18, Noir, Epsom, gold hardware, G stamp.* It gives you, in order:

  1. Model and size (Constance Mini 18, 24, To Go)
  2. Colour in French (Noir = black, Etoupe = taupe grey, Gold = a tan brown, Argent = silver)
  3. Leather (Epsom, Box calf, Chèvre, Swift)
  4. Hardware (gold, silver = palladium, champagne gold)
  5. Stamp — the letter that shows the year of production (for example B = 2023, W = 2024)

Then check the condition rank (on our English pages: New, Unused item, Used super beautiful condition, Used condition, Used Good Product, Sign of use) and the list of accessories.

What to check before you buy a pre-owned Constance

  • The flap: does it lie flat, or has it started to curl at the edges?
  • The corners and edges: these wear first on a small structured bag.
  • The H clasp: scratches on the face, and whether it closes firmly.
  • The strap: creases where it folds, and the edge paint.
  • Inside: marks from pens or make-up, and any smell.
  • Accessories: dust bag, box and any other items. Ask what is included with that item.

Every item at LUXARIA is authenticated before sale. Our site explains that inspections are always done by more than one person and that only items that pass an inspection of 50 or more points are listed.

FAQ

Should I buy a Constance 18 or 24?

Choose the Mini 18 if you want a small bag for essentials, and the 24 if you want more room for everyday use. Check what you need to carry and ask the store to confirm it fits.

How much is a pre-owned Constance 18 in Japan?

At LUXARIA, Constance Mini 18 bags in stock on 5 November 2026 were listed at ¥1,718,182–¥2,200,000 (tax-excluded display prices). Prices depend on leather, colour, hardware, year and condition, and stock changes daily.

Is the Constance easy to find in Japan?

It is less common than the Picotin or Birkin. We had 13 Constance-family items on 5 November 2026, compared with 45 Picotins and 44 Birkins. Check stock online before your trip.

Which leather is good for a Constance?

Epsom is often chosen because it keeps the flat, structured shape. Box calf is smooth and glossy but shows marks more easily; Chèvre is a fine-grained goatskin. Look at photos of the actual bag.

Gold or palladium hardware on a Constance?

It is a matter of style: gold looks warmer, palladium (silver) cooler. Because the H clasp is large, look at close-up photos of it on a pre-owned bag.

Can you ship a Constance overseas?

Yes, for most items. Shipping costs depend on the item and are shown at checkout, and import duties are paid by the recipient. Bags with exotic skins may need extra permits.
